'Legalese' is often unnecessary. 'Notwithstanding the fact that' (27 characters) can be replaced by 'Although' (8 characters).

Modern legal writing focuses on the 'Plain English' movement. It reduces the risk of misunderstanding and speeds up contract reviews. Shorter is safer.
